Publisher's summary[edit | edit source]

Wreck & Rule! They’ve been beaten up, torn apart, betrayed, and had their sins revealed. The few remaining Wreckers are more lost and lonelier than they’ve ever been, which makes it the perfect time for them to come under fire from an anti-Cybertronian campaigner and an old foe! Remember them fondly, because this is the “Requiem of the Wreckers.”

Plot summary[edit | edit source]

In the two years since the Noisemaze incident, Verity Carlo and Springer have been living in an off-grid barn, supplemented by a communications array provided by Prowl. Using this they have heard of two things: the rise of Megan Guiglione, a politician with an anti-Cybertronian platform, and the death of Kup on Cybertron. Also struggling with the recent news that Tarantulas was his creator, Springer is doubly affected by this and seeks out for support from the only Cybertronian who will understand—Impactor, who is now a member of the anti-factionalism terrorist group Mayhem. As they prepare to leave, Verity needs to synchronize a headset so she can monitor a diagnostic on the array, and Springer decides to tell the story of how he first met Impactor...

Millions of years ago, during the war, Kup and Springer fought alongside each other in an attempt to keep a quadrant from falling in Decepticon hands. A supply drone makes its rounds, and Springer jumps off a cliff in an effort to prevent the enemy from restocking. When he safely lands, he is greeted by Impactor, who tells him he is being called to join the Wreckers. As the Wrecker leader drives away, Springer is elated by the news until he sees the saddened look on Kup's face.

Just before they leave, Verity raises concerns over numerous phantom transfers but comforts herself in that it is probably a small bug. Springer decides to take the journey in his automobile mode, to show a smaller profile. 637 miles down the road later, Verity makes a decision to stop at a gas station as a ploy to get out of a conversation about something else they found using the array. While in the station, she picks out a greeting card, but suddenly notices a bulldozer plowing into Springer and driving him away.

Carlo calls Impactor in an attempt to find help and ends up in a town holding a rally for Megan Guiglione. The next day, she wakes up next to a rally and is surprised when Springer transforms out of the sky and seemingly executes Guiglione in the name of the Autobot cause. Guiglione is revealed to be a Chimeracon Cybertronian under her human skin and transforms into Overlord, who summarily knocks the former Wrecker offline. Nearby, a police car, a van, a motorcycle, a fire truck and the bulldozer the carried Springer away transform into Overbite, Tuskmaster, Stampy, Smolder, and Steamhammer. Overbite is angered over the fact that Carnivac, petty over the fact that Springer turned down his offer to join Mayhem, mode-locked the Triple Changer and forced him to attack "Guiglione". Seeing this as their chance to make a mark, the agents of Mayhem attempt to kill Overlord, but they are easily ripped to shreds by the Phase Sixer. Before he can mutilate Springer, Verity dons her old gauntlets and fires on the Decepticon. Remembering the human from Garrus-9, Overlord grabs her and flies off as Impactor arrives on the scene. With an air strike from the military on the way, Impactor gathers Springer and informs Carnivac he plans to kill him after his friend is repaired.

Overlord takes Verity to an abandoned volcano, where the Decepticon tells her he has been thinking about her ever since she told him of Megatron's return. However, Overlord has decided to bring in another person to assist in his revenge fantasies, bringing in Tarantulas. The mad scientist berates Overlord for mocking his construction of the Guiglione disguise, saying she was a variable to see if the war's living personification, Overlord, would have been affected. Tired of the scientist's prattlings, Overlord asks if the next phase of their plan is complete, but Tarantulas has it is not, further accusing the Phase Sixer of derailing his work by revealing his presence to humanity. Overlord responds that Springer is dead, but Tarantulas corrects him by revealing Springer's spark is indestructible, a fact only known by his creator. Deciding to speak up, Verity says that while Tarantulas supplied the raw materials, Springer's true self has nothing to do with the mad scientist.

After meeting Impactor, Springer decides to travel to the Wreckers' secret base, with Kup accompanying him. Just as they arrive, Kup tells the young 'bot to never let the Wreckers eliminate Springer's sense of overwhelming positivity. A chasm opens in the ground, and Springer is greeted by Impactor and the Wreckers inside. As Impactor mentally prepares Springer for the things a Wrecker has to do, he looks over his shoulder and realizes Kup is already gone.

At Mayhem headquarters, an enraged Springer breaks out of his CR chamber and tackles impactor to the ground, blaming him for all that previously occured. Impactor claims innonence, saying he was ignorant of Carnivac's plan.

Transformers references[edit | edit source]

  • Overlord's Chimeracon disguise, Megan Guiglione, is named after his Godmaster partners Mega and Giga from Transformers: Super-God Masterforce. In Guiglione's speech, she calls the American public the "real power masters", with Powermasters being the Western equivalent of Godmasters.
  • Two new members of Mayhem are Smolder and Steamhammer, both from the Power Core Combiners toyline.
  • On one of the Timemaze monitors, an alternate form of Optimus Prime is seen, based on his appearance in the Viron universal cluster. Also visible is a forearm with a spiked mace attached, most likely the first appearance of Death's Head. Finally, a metal planet connected by others is seen, a reference to the Hub, a concept from Transformers: Generation 2.
  • Following the death of Impactor, Springer calls him a "wily old buzzard", Impactor's nickname for Xaaron from UK Transformers comic issue "Target: 2006".
  • One of Megan Guiglione's news headlines shows her holding an effigy of Optimus Prime's head on a stake with an American flag in her other hand, a reference to Cover A from Transformers: All Hail Megatron 1.
  • Two of the new Wreckers are Breacher, an import from the Tyran universal cluster, and Strongarm, from the Uniend cluster.
