Publisher's summary

Elita One, Windblade, and Starscream fight to gain ultimate control of Cybertron! Dark secrets will be revealed in this series finale!

Plot summary

On Cybertron, Windblade wakes up and gets off of her recharge slab to face a beaten and battered Iacon, most recently by the Iron Ring's invasion. She is saddened by that fact that the Cybertronian race is always rebuilding, never having time to create something new. Also, she knows that this will not change in the near future, with the threat of Liege Maximo and Elita One's and Starscream's constant power struggles. She heads off to the Spire, for today is the day she will retake her position as the delegate for the people of Caminus on the Council of Worlds. Before she enters the chamber, Windblade watches a recording left by Chromia, who has headed out to hunt Liege Maximo, along with a group that includes the Carcerian pilots Greenlight and Lancer.

As she enters the room, Windblade is met with the applause of her fellow delegates. The Camien is suprised that even Starscream is reveling in the festivities, until she realizes the presence of Circuit and Longtooth, revealing that the whole gathering is nothing more than a publicity stunt. She remarks that Cybertron's leader is attempting to gain public support before Maximo returns, forcing Starscream to order the Combaticons to usher the two reporters out of the room. Windblade is suprised that the Council has neglected to tell the rest of Cybertron about the Prime's return. Feeling threatened by the Camien's outrage, Starscream makes it official that any mention of Maximo's return is a crime against Cybertron, and any lawbreakers will be either prosecuted or killed. Windblade is stunned that the Mistress of Flame is willingly standing by this decision, which is met by the Mistress asking whether the Cityspeaker would disrespect the living will of the Primes. Windblade then tells the Mistress that she is done with following the Primes, leading to the Mistress striking her before the stunned Council.

Behind the scenes

Continuity references

  • Windblade lists all of the recent conflicts in Iacon, including the battle between the Combiners,[1] Bruticus' rampage,[2] the Titans' invasion,[3] and the Iron Ring's invasion.[4] She also observes the recent dealings the Combaticons have had with Starscream,[5] and remembers the mental merging she had with Starscream.[6]
  • After Liege Maximo escaped,[7] Chromia was dispatched to retrieve him.[8] This issue implies that Lightbright and Sparkstalker were accompanying her.
  • Chromia mentions that she hopes, on their travels, they do not meet with Firestar. Her personality, as displayed previously,[9] seems to directly clash with Chromia's.
  • Although Airazor's outrage about learning about Liege Maximo can be genuine, this is not the first time the Council has heard about the Pirme's escape, as they discussed the matter during the Irong Ring's invasion.[10]
  • Waspinator recalls how Windblade treated him in their first meeting.[11]
  • Airazor mentions how she and Tigatron were banished from their tribe when they fell in love.[12]
  • Rattrap has been working to undermine Starscream for two years.[13] He reveals that he is "DC-357", who Onslaught received a note from,[14] which makes the "coercion" he was under when he aided the Combaticons was a farce.[15]
  • Windblade makes note of "the creatures underground", part of a setup for Transformers Vs. Visionaries.
  • This issue's title, "The Chosen One", is a title Starscream has used to describe himself for five years now, ever since Metrotitan declared he would unite Cybertron's warriors. Starscream fulfills this prophecy by uniting the planet against himself,[16] letting Windblade begin a new age for the Cybertronian race.
