Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Around 7,000,000 BC, during the Golden Age of Cybertron, Nova Prime feared that the pulse from Vector Sigma which caused sparks to be born would slow, eventually stopping completely. Needing an infinite army to complete his grand plan, an "Expansion" across the galaxy, he commissioned his chief engineer, Tyrest, to find a way to generate sparks from the Matrix of Leadership. Tyrest succeeded, produced generations' worth of sparks, forcing the engineers to store them in photonic crystals. Eventually, these crystals were forgotten for almost two million years after Nova Prime and his closest followers disappeared in the Benzuli Expanse.

Sometime around 5,000,000 BC, under Nominus Prime, the sparks were rediscovered and sent to construction facilities to be placed in new bodies. A construction facility in Petrex received one of them, where the frame it was put in came to be known as Prowl. The chassis had a police car alternate mode. Due to Petrex's harsh Functionist doctrine (making disparaging remarks about one's alternate configuration was an imprisonable offense), Prowl learned to gain an appreciation for order and discipline, soon becoming a police officer.

The Mechaforensics Division[edit | edit source]

Prowl eventually was transferred to Iacon, where he joined the Iaconian Mechaforensic Division. He eventually became known for ordering a full autopsy after every investigation. Tumblr, an Iaconian native, was his partner and the two had a more-than-platonic relationship, but not to Conjunx Endura status.

Shortly after Nominus Prime's death in 4th Cycle 501, or around 4,200,000 BC, the two were sent to Rodion to investigate the body of Senator Sherma hung from the Interstate Bridge near Maccadam's Old Oil House. After discovering a Decepticon insignia graffitied on the senator's back, Prowl ordered an autopsy done back at headquarters. Once the disassembly team finished, Prowl and Tumbler reviewed the findings that Sherma was shot at close range and was covered with cerulean glass, a glass only found in the Translucentia Heights neighborhood of northern Iacon. Once they arrived at the community, almost immediately, the headless body of Senator Momus was thrown out of a building and landed at their feet, also with a Decepticon symbol on his back.

As Tumbler went after the killer, Prowl investigated Momus' room. Tumbler returned after the killer accidentally killed himself, bring the warden of the neighborhood, Red Alert, with him. Utilizing ultraviolet light, he found a Decepticon shrine in the room and a datapad of "The Decepticon Manifesto." Prowl also discovered a second killer, who was hiding in the room and began to attack them. They were rescued by fellow police officer Orion Pax, who had come from Rodion in an attempt to protect Momus. Prowl deduced that Decepticons did not kill the senators, because they were Decepticons. Pax also determined that the killers were "bodygloving," using temporary flight-capable bodies to achieve their goal.

Orion sent the two to a relinquishment clinic to find more information as he went to Luna 2. En route, they came across a Decepticon rally, protesting against the Decepticon Registration Act. Tumbler told Prowl that a friend of his believed that a war was brewing and asked his partner what side he would be on, to which Prowl responded he would leave the planet, hopefully taking Tumbler in tow. The two soon arrived at the clinic, where Prowl was appalled that one of his preliminary reports was being cited as fact on the official, state-sponsored Iaconian Newsfeed Service, with the source coming from his division head, Flatfoot. A doctor named Trepan came out to greet them and was promptly handcuffed to a table after Tumbler found numerous signs that he was not to be trusted.

After searching the clinic, they discovered a sub-level. Within, the two found a room holding the long-missing Pious Maximus, a ward full of hollowed out Empties, and a hall full of cerebroscientists probing and unpeeling brain modules. Tumbler believed they were at the Institute, a Senate-sponsored facility whose purpose was to perform personality adjustments more commonly known as shadowplay. They eventually found the control room and saw the owners of the bodies used to kill the senators. The two then left to discover Trepan had escaped, but before Prowl could issue an arrest warrant, Pax called them to the Rodion police station to inform them of the situation. Due to data found in the Institute, Orion, and his friend Senator Shockwave deduced that the Matrix of Leadership with Prime's body was a bomb, and when it detonated, the Senate would blame the Decepticons, allowing their head of security Sentinel to arrest them and perform shadowplay.

Prowl left the room, and when Orion went to confront him, he told his reasons for leaving: on account of a hunch, Orion was willing to steal the Matrix of Leadership from the Primal Basilica on the belief that it was a bomb, but they could not tell anyone because the Senate could danger their lives as well. However, Prowl promised to keep their plot a secret with Orion promising to keep Tumbler out of it, taking off into the night on a skydart.

Joining the Security Services[edit | edit source]

The Senate appointed Sentinel to be the next Prime. Prowl decided to join the newly formed Autobot Security Services in Kaon in an attempt to reform the organization from the inside, eventually becoming Sentinel's second-in-command. He often had to talk the Prime down out of his more destructive ideas, including using a Titan to destroy the Decepticons. However, this decision led to a schism between him and Tumbler.

On one day, he and Sentinel visited Luna 2, presumably to oversee the closing down of the moon's mines. Sentinel had him put the mine's supervisor, Soundwave, down for report as they carried on their inspection.

In 1st Cycle 502, Prowl got a report of a shuttle crash involving a senator and informed the Prime, who promptly told his second-in-command to deal with it. Soon, vid-disks containing footage of a gladiatorial pit-fighter and Decepticon named Megatron hit the streets. Prowl formed a large team of Security Services members to stop the illegal combat and held a meeting where he discussed that the proceeds of the sale of the tapes were netting someone a fortune until he was interrupted by Sentinel. Prime said he planned to have eight reconnaissance teams at possible arena sites, and a strike team, Hammer, ready to move in. With this, the officers deployed.

However, one of the reconnaissance teams, consisting of Bumper and Fastback, were intercepted and killed personally by Megatron. Prowl, along with the rest of the Services, attended the funeral. Soon, in an arena in Kaon, the Services had their chance, raiding the stadium. Prowl personally was responsible for putting restraints on Megatron. They returned to headquarters, where Prowl reported that due to Senate orders, Soundwave was to be released.

However, the capture ended up being a feint which end goal was killing the Senate and Prowl participated in the aftermath: attempting to save Kaon from the escaped Decepticon convicts. After Sentinel left to retrieve the Apex Armor, Prowl eventually made his way to a fallback position which was attempting to call for backup from Iacon. However, the body of Sentinel Prime was dropped before him by the Decepticon Starscream, leading to Prowl changing his request to an evac team: they were leaving Kaon to the Decepticons.

Prowl took the role of acting head of Iaconian Security Forces and made a statement against the Decepticons for decapitating Sentinel's body within the Primal Basilica.

Working for Zeta[edit | edit source]

Fighting Against Arms Deals[edit | edit source]

Prowl relinquished his role to Zeta Prime, who soon took over. He began to watch the Prime and the Senate, for he knew the system was corrupt. Prowl then moved from working on the streets to theoretical statistics. After the death of Hefter around 4,000,000 BC, one day, Orion Pax brought in a Decepticon sympathizer, Jetfire, and Pax attempted to convince him to help them in identifying Hefter's murderer. Prowl was initially skeptical, for he believed Pax supported the current regime, but once Orion revealed he was also working against corruption, Prowl agreed to help. The Autobot took Jetfire to an interrogation room and began to ask him questions about his motives from assault Orion. Jetfire attempted to retaliate, but Prowl punched him and calmed him down, saying he and Pax were trying to identify Hefter's killer. The scientist then told him he did it on his own volition, but another Decepticon had told him about Pax.

The group then traveled to a Decepticon bolthole, where Ravage led them to meet Soundwave, who asked what they wanted. He insisted that Autobot police officers killed Hefter on innocent grounds, not because of arms dealing. As they leave, Soundwave tells them that the Decepticon cause is not violent, they were not selling arms, and Hefter was innocent. However, the officers were not convinced. Prowl "released" Jetfire from his charges of assault, and the scientist punched him as he left, in full view of two Decepticons, Horri-Bull and Needlenose. Pax and Prowl then regrouped at the deserted Cosmic Carnival, where Jetfire brought a gun as proof of the Decepticons selling weapons and the location of the next arms deal.

The officer fitted him with a wire to discover whether or not the Decepticons are telling the truth or not. They listened in as Needlenose, Horri-Bull, and two other Decepticons revealed that the weapons were from Soundwave, meaning the Decepticon lied. Orion is enraged that Soundwave lied to him. Prowl attempted to calm him down, but Orion was set on his rage, saying Zeta's hatred of the Decepticons was right and that Hefter got what he deserved. Orion and Prowl jumped the Decepticons and killed one of them, and Jetfire another before Soundwave detonated the arms shipment.

Later, they went back to the crime scene, where Outback, the officer who killed Hefter, joined them. He congratulated Jetfire for killing a Decepticon before going on his way. Orion invited Jetfire to join the Autobots alongside him and Prowl, to stop the Decepticons.

The next day, Jetfire came in the police headquarters with the gun he used to kill a Decepticon. Prowl then took him to his new job as a lab technician in the Science Divison, before leaving him to Nosecone to show him around.

A New Ally[edit | edit source]

One day, a young courier named Bumblebee came in and confessed to destroying the Tygun Factory. Prowl believed that he was a Decepticon who became disenfranchised with the cause, but Orion thought something else was at hand. Meanwhile, he contacted Jetfire to scan for any outside transmissions. The scientist discovered nonuniform sinusoidal wave packets penetrating the room and Prowl ordered him to track them. As Orion attempted to calm Bumblebee down, Prowl came in to tell them that the courier was not at fault.

They discovered that Soundwave, under the direction of Shockwave, was broadcasting the signals to Bumblebee. The police officers attacked the Decepticons, with Prowl being jumped on by Ravage before he was surprised by Bumblebee striking Soundwave. However, the Decepticons escaped, but Orion offered Bumblebee a job on the police force.

Beginnings of a Schemer[edit | edit source]

Prowl began working with the scientist Mesothulas to combat the Decepticons. The relationship the two had was seen by Mesothulas to be symbiotic—Prowl's imagination would fuel Mesothulas' wish to do the impossible. Soon, the two began developing many weapons and inventions, the first of which was the stasis bullet. The next weapon was called the Decepti-Bomb, a bomb which components could only be traced to the Decepticons. They also constructed Aequitas, a computer which was able to judge the accused spark and determine whether or not they were worthy of another of Mesothulas' inventions, spark extraction. Also, he developed the overmind protocol, which allowed a Cybertronian to be controlled by another. Finally, their last and possibly greatest creation together was Ostaros, an artificial Cybertronian given life with an artificial copy of the Matrix's pulse waves.

Prowl ran the designs for Aequitas before his superiors, and they were skeptical. However, Chief Justice Tyrest was interested in the plan. Soon, the Decepti-Bomb was detonated in the city of Carpessa, killing 1,438 and motivating the rest to join the Autobots. Prowl went to tell Mesothulas the news and announce that he was done working with him. This feeling was even further founded by his discovery of the Noisemaze, a pocket dimension designed to hold prisoners, all while destabilizing them.

Eventually, he contacted Impactor with a deal: eliminate Mesothulas and all of his creations in exchange for a hefty favor. Impactor did as he was told, pushing Mesothulas into the Noisemaze and destroying the lab. However, he could not kill Ostaros and told Prowl to kill the artificial 'bot himself. Prowl could not kill him either and instead decided to give him upgrades and enlist in the police force as Springer.

The Second Cybertronian Civil War[edit | edit source]

An Escalating Conflict[edit | edit source]

Eventually, Megatron officially declared war on Declaration Day, motivating the Decepticons to infiltrate various Torus-States. Prowl soon found himself assigned to Orion Pax's unit, alongside Bumblebee, Hound, Ironhide, and Silverbolt. The team was deployed to the Torus-City of Nyon, specifically the Rust Narrows, in an attempt to find the Decepticon arms dealer known as Swindle. They found him selling phase-charges to dissidents. Pax took him down and prepared to bring him in. However, a dissident used one of the charges in an attempt to blow them up. However, he failed, and the team hauled Swindle back to Iacon.

Prowl was once again called into action when Decepticon spy Soundwave attempted to make it to Kaon with secrets disclosed in one of Zeta's security councils. He and Ironhide began to chase him after he heavily damaged Bumblebee and Hound. They caught up to him underneath the Neurospan Bridge, but Soundwave ejected one of his minions, Rumble, who dropped the bridge on top of the Autobots. After being repaired, Prowl discovered that Orion Pax and Bumblebee had been taken by the Decepticons to talk with Megatron at the Jump Joint in Kaon. He, along with Hound and Ironhide, broke in and rescued them, escaping aboard Sky Lynx.

When they returned to Iacon, Zeta gave them a new assignment: apprehend the insurgent that attacked them in Nyon, Hot Rod. They returned to the Rust Narrows and entered the Acroplex, the ancient Cybertronian capitol. He went into the building and took cover as Hot Rod began to fire upon them until Ironhide scared him away with his cyclone launcher. The squad then came into the Halls of Order and discovered plasma mines buried around the chamber, which prowl determined to be unarmed. They continued into the structure and found a shrine to the Matrix of Leadership and a room filled with energon tanks. Hot Rod came out and showed Pax the numerous people in the room who had been bled dry of energon and attempted to convince him to fight against Zeta. Prowl protested against this, saying they were officers of the law but changed his mind once he saw Zeta's Omega Destructors assaulting Nyon.

The small squad of Autobots decided to do all they could do was stall the Destructors for Hot Rod to get his people out of the city. Prowl and Orion served as bait to draw it towards Bumblebee and Ironhide, who, after firing upon it, did no damage to it. The Autobots then prepared to pull out of the city, just as hot Rod detonated the phase-charges, destroying the city around them. However, Zeta Prime himself came down, knocking them offline. Their lives were saved by Megatron and a squad of Seekers, who forced Zeta to flee, and subsequently scooped them up and took them to Kolkular for repairs.

After being repaired, Prowl found out that Orion Pax and Megatron had allied to take down Zeta. He, along with the Decepticons and the rest of the squad, went on an assault on the Citadel, fighting the remainder of the Omega Destructors. After taking the great machines down, he was subsequently captured by the Decepticons, who betrayed them to take Iacon.

Retaking Iacon[edit | edit source]

Prowl was placed in a cell alongside fellow Autobots Hound, Kup, and Springer. They soon escaped the Citadel along with the rest of the Autobot captives and went down the Citadel's substructures to escape the city. The Autobots followed Orion's ID signature to the ruins of Nyon, where they found that he had found the Matrix of Leadership and was now Optimus Prime. Before they prepared to begin an assault on Iacon, Prowl bore witness to Optimus calling up one of the last Titans on Cybertron, Metroplex.

Later, Prowl, alongside Optimus, Bumblebee, Blaster, and Sky Lynx, traveled to the communications array atop the Iaconian Newsfeed Service headquarters. He cut the broadcast feed, allowing Blaster to broadcast his message for a call to arms for any Cybertronian who wished to call themselves an Autobot. Prowl then participated in the march on the Citadel. The battle ended in an Autobot victory, expelling the Decepticons and destroying the Citadel, with Metroplex taking place as the Autobot capital. Prowl soon discovered Zeta's warehouse in the Undergrid, filled with numerous weapons and artifacts of unknown power. Optimus Prime ordered him to destroy it, but Prowl kept the artifacts within, in case they needed them against the Decepticons.

Under New Leadership[edit | edit source]

Soon, Prowl was called in along with an Autobot team to defend the Toraxxis mega-refinery against a squad of Decepticons, led by Scorponok. He, along with a few others, survived the detonation of the blast, even though he was at ground zero. This act led to what would soon be called the Exodus: 'bots from all across the planet decided to leave for the stars. Prowl and a security team worked at the Starsreach Spaceport in an attempt to keep the crowds calm. He eventually called in Optimus Prime in an attempt to stop a riot from escalating, but this only further raised the violence. Prime was able to calm them down eventually, but Prowl was forced into action when a small Decepticon team attacked the spaceport.

After Grimlock forced them away, Prowl was present when he and the rest of the Dynobots boarded a starship headed away from Cybertron. Simultaneously, Scorponok raised the mad Titan Trypticon from the bowels of Cybertron and sent him towards Iacon. Prowl, alongside an Autobot army, intercepted it in Harmonex and attempted to stop it, but in the end, an alliance between a returned Grimlock and Megatron took him down.

As the Autobots attempted to regroup in the aftermath of the attack, Megatron led another attack on Iacon, this time aided by an army from Junkion. Prowl was in the Autobot command bunker while Optimus decided to stay and fight, rather than run. Once they faced the Junkion army, Prowl voiced his opinion that they should retreat, but Optimus continued in his decision to stand and fight. Suddenly, acid rain began to fall from the sky, creating a perfect habitat for Sharkticons, the Junkions' subordinates, and the Autobots' new enemies. Prowl, alongside the rest of the Autobots, continued to fight against the main Decepticon army who had just descended upon the battlefield, with prowl personally shooting one through the chest. He was soon forced to retreat to Optimus Prime's stronghold around Omega Supreme. The Decepticons bombed their position; however, Trailbreaker threw up a forcefield around them, allowing the Autobots to attack with renewed strength. The battle ended with an Autobot victory and Megatron imprisoned until his subsequent escape.

A Continuing Conflict[edit | edit source]

Battles Across the Cosmos[edit | edit source]

Following the battle, Prowl led an Autobot squad against a Decepticon team led by Shockwave on Junkion. The conflict was insignificant, which ended when one of the commanders, whether it be Prowl or Shockwave, decided the most strategic move was to detonate the planet's gravimetric core. The core was detonated, destroying the planet as the Autobots and Decepticons returned to Cybertron.

Not long after this, Prowl served under Optimus Prime in an attempt to stop a Decepticon fuel shipment. Optimus left him in charge as he went to flank the Decepticon squad. The battle was considered a success with Optimus halting the transfer. Prowl attended the celebration afterward, encouraging Prime to give a speech. However, Optimus refused, for the night was for festivities only.

At some point during the war, Prowl decided to leave the Autobots, and he went neutral. He boarded the ship Peaceful Resolution in an attempt to escape Cybertron, but the craft was shot down over the Manganese Mountains. While he survived, Prowl rejoined the Autobots and gained a deep hatred for non-allied Cybertronians, for he thought they were cowards for running away from the conflict.

At another time, he was appointed as head of Autobot Special Operations, with the intention of the division being "the Wreckers done right," with a focus on stealth instead of going in guns blazing.

Defending the Titan[edit | edit source]

In 500,000 BC, Prowl participated in defense of a Decepticon assault on Metroplex. He urged Optimus to not participate in the fight itself, but his words were unheeded until Alpha Trion supported him, saying that he and Metroplex should leave instead. The Autobots departed the Titan, allowing Trion and Metroplex to take off. While he agreed with Trion's plan, Prowl told Bumblebee, who ignored him, that the war was illogical and the Autobots' fearless leader was too reactive rather than proactive, necessitating a leader who could plan.

His Own Command[edit | edit source]

Around 10,000 BC, Prowl was given command of a starship, the Ark-19. A transmission was supposed to be sent to him by Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. However, it was intercepted by the crew of the Axalon.

After 8389 BC, Prowl led a team of officers to bring in the Autobot drill instructor Roadbuster who had murdered numerous cadets in the name of Mortilus. However, this particular occasion was when Impactor decided to call in his favor, having Roadbuster released to the ranks of the Wreckers.

Ongoing Schemes[edit | edit source]

At some point during the war, Prowl participated in a battle alongside Optimus, Ironhide, and Thunderclash against Megatron, Skywarp, Starscream, and Soundwave, with Prowl personally getting punched by the Decepticon spy.

In 1569 AD, the conflicts occurring on Cybertron were forced to be relocated due to the planet's devastation. By 1842 AD, Autobot High Command was stationed aboard a starship. Prowl was present when Bumblebee reported that the bearer of the Magnus Armor, Convoy, had perished and Optimus Prime announced that his predecessor, Minimus Ambus, would take his place as the Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord.

In 1988 AD, Aequitas, the guilt-detecting computer Mesothulas had built millennia before, was activated and placed within the deep recesses of Garrus-9, an Autobot maximum security prison on the planet of Elba. Prowl, along with numerous Autobot law officer, listened to countless tales of morphcore harvesting, civilian executions, and rust injections, among other crimes, all of them committed on the Autobot side. The presiding Chief Justice, Tyrest, agreed to keep Aequitas and all of its trials a secret until the last verdict. However, Prowl had his misgivings, and sent two agents, Getaway and Skids, to find Tyrest and fire a nudge gun into his head to tell the Chief Justice to resign.

Heading for Earth[edit | edit source]

In 2002 AD, Prowl was assigned to command a counter-insurgency unit, consisting of Bumblebee, Ironhide, Jazz, and Wheeljack, on Earth against an infiltration led by Starscream. While on the planet, he was joined by Chief Medical Officer Ratchet and Sunstreaker, who were added to his command, and he also established an underwater base in Lake Michigan in the form of the Ark-19. They operated undercover on the planet for at least four years, attempting to take out the Decepticons as they still operated in Phase One of the infiltration protocols. At some point during this time, Ratchet attempted to be a hero, disrupting operations, but Prowl let it go, for a time.

In 2006 AD, he received a transmission from Ratchet asking for backup in the investigation of the murder of a human by Decepticons; however, he deemed it a waste of resources and denied it. He eventually relented, and Prowl, along with Ironhide and Sunstreaker, traveled to California, arriving just as they found Ratchet, along with three humans, being attacked by Thundercracker. They fired upon him, scaring the Seeker away, before he announced that the Chief Medical Officer was under arrest, not only for having disobeyed direct orders but violating the Code of Interplanetary Conflict. However, Ratchet told him one thing: the Decepticons had advanced to siege mode.
