Biography[edit | edit source]

A Young Medic[edit | edit source]

Investigating Nominus[edit | edit source]

A Cybertronian male, Ratchet was forged on Cybertron at some point before five million years ago. He displayed a great aptitude for medicine, and thus enrolled in the Iaconian Academy of Science and Technology. While there, he met Orion Pax, a native of Iacon, and Thunderclash, who helped Ratchet pass his medical exams. After graduation, the three remained good friends.

Around five million years ago, Ratchet's skills as a medic were so highly praised that he became Chief Medical Officer. Unsatisfied by this work, Orion, now a police captain in Rodion, told Ratchet to open a free clinic in the Dead End of Rodion for Empties, which the young medic accepted. After Nominus Prime was injured by a suicide bomber, Ratchet was called, and he performed the life-saving surgery. A few days later, in Rodion, Pax brought the medic a new patient, an overdosed addict named Drift, whom Ratchet promptly saved from spark burnout. When he woke up, Ratchet told Drift to go to the Functionists to look for a job, but Drift had his eyes set on donating his body to a relinquishment clinic. The medic told him that he believed that the Empty was destined for something more significant.

After Drift left, Orion showed Ratchet the news, where Slamdance reported that Nominus Prime was dead, his killer being a long-standing rust infection. Knowing this not to be the case, Orion took Ratchet to meet a friend of his with the same mindset, a senator named Shockwave. Ratchet came to serve a role where while Orion and Shockwave would converse, he would help by posing as an innocent bystander. Once Orion discovered that Shockwave's life was in danger, he sent Ratchet and Roller to pick him up from his Academy and bring him to Rodion in protective custody. Orion eventually discovered that the Senate planned to plant a bomb on the Matrix of Leadership and after it exploded, blame it on the Decepticon movement and Ratchet joined him in his quest to stop it. Ratchet then went to the Primal Basilica to give a health and safety inspection, which was, in fact, a ploy to gain knowledge of the facility. The next night, he, along with Pax, Roller, and three of Shockwave's students, Glitch, Skids, and Windcharger, traveled to the Basilica where they replaced the Matrix bomb with a replica.

After this venture, Pax, Roller, and the Outliers were forced to flee from the Senate and their enforcer, Sentinel. Roller went to the clinic to say goodbye, to which Ratchet was unable to give a worthy response. Roller soon disappeared, and Ratchet's inability to say goodbye would haunt him for millennia.

Joining the Autobots[edit | edit source]

By four million years ago, Sentinel had taken Nominus' place as Prime. At some point, he was mortally injured, and Ratchet operated on him, saving his life. Ratchet joined the Autobot Security Services in Kaon at the time of Megatron's uprising. He attended the funeral services of Bumper and Fastback after Megatron himself killed them. Ratchet presumably evacuated Kaon along with the rest of the Services after the Decepticons led an assault on Kaon, taking over the city.

Zeta, one of Shockwave's pupils, became Prime after Sentinel's death and at some point was also mortally injured, leading to Ratchet saving his life. Around this time, he was most likely held up by Killmaster before the Decepticon was arrested and brought into Autobot custody. He also agreed to Zeta's Chief Medical Officer, just as he had been under Nominus. Ratchet was soon stationed at the Deltaran Medical Facility where he met Pharma, who became one of his closest friends. One time, he left the facility without his guards and was captured by Decepticons led by the scientist Bludgeon, who took the doctor to the Rust Spot in a plan to exchange the doctor for Alpha Trion. The Autobot hostage exchanger happened to be Orion Pax, who, along with Nightbeat, saved the doctor. Pax covered the group's escape and soon rejoined them after he recovered from a shuttle crash.

Upon his return, he left working for the facility and instead began working for the Technoversity of Ultirex in Iacon. While there, he befriended Jetfire, a graduate student whose aerial alternate mode made it hard for him to find scientific work. After a Decepticon, Hefter, was killed in Autobot custody, Orion Pax brought the body to Ratchet to examine it. After looking over the body, he confirmed that the reports of Hefter's cause of death were lies, which also confirmed his disbelief in Zeta, citing Jetfire's ailment as the cause. After Jetfire, who had Decepticon leanings, realized Orion Pax was an Autobot officer, he assaulted him, but Pax arrested him instead, to Ratchet's horror.

Second Cybertronian Civil War[edit | edit source]

Early Stages[edit | edit source]

After Megatron formally declared war on the Autobots and Zeta Prime revealed his true intentions, Ratchet allied himself with Orion Pax and the Decepticons, joining in on the assault on the Citadel. After Megatron betrayed Orion, he then returned to the technoversity. While there, he, along with a reformed Jetfire and Wheeljack, listened to Optimus Prime's, the former Orion Pax's, call for a march on Iacon to retake it from the Decepticons.

At some point after the victorious march, Ratchet joined the Autobots and was subsequently placed on a team sent to look for survivors in the wreckage of the Toraxxis mega-refinery. The group, which consisted of Ratchet's former colleagues, Jetfire and Wheeljack, and another scientist, Perceptor, found life-signs beneath the surface of Cybertron. Descending into the caverns, they discovered pictographs dating back to the age of the Knights of Cybertron depicting ancient beings attempting to lock something underground. Suddenly, a seismic wave caused the team to fall into a cavern with a large lake of energon in the middle. Ratchet fell in after another quake, and when he emerged, he started growling and attacked Perceptor. After he regained his composure, Ratchet and the team attempted to analyze the lake's composition, but they were chased away by cyber-morphic predators. Breaking into another cavern, the team discovered an even larger monster who appeared to be in slumber. They returned to Iacon and reported their findings to Optimus, who told them to find a way to kill the monster in order for the Autobots to purify and utilize the energon. When the monster, Trypticon, was awakened by Scorponok, and ravaged Harmonex, Ratchet was deployed to combat the monster's minions, the predators.

After Trypticon was taken down, Ratchet and Wheeljack traveled back to Iacon where they restored the Dynobots, a former Primal Vanguard unit, back into their original alternate modes. A few days later, during the Battle of Iacon, Ratchet repaired Bumblebee after injuries he sustained from battling Megatron.

As the war went on, it spread to other parts of Cybertron. In Rodion, during the Rorsha campaign, Optimus Prime was damaged by Megatron. Ratchet was sent to repair him, a feat that took two months. At some point, Ratchet was held at gunpoint by both Starscream and Megatron. Also, Drift, who changed his name to Deadlock, became one of the most feared warriors in the Decepticon army, something that would haunt Ratchet for millennia.

At some point after 650,000 BC, Ratchet and Pharma reunited and began working together again. Soon, the two were deployed to an unidentified planet where they accompanied Prowl's team in apprehending Roadbuster for the murder of numerous cadets. Ratchet and Pharma managed to save and repair only one cadet, Hubcap. However, Roadbuster was acquitted for his crimes due to the machinations of Impactor, whom Prowl owed a favor.

During the twentieth century, Ratchet became a subscriber to Fisitron's Wreckers: Declassified datalogues.

Under Prowl's Command[edit | edit source]

Around 2002, Ratchet was contacted by Prowl to join his unit. After informing Pharma of his intentions, he left, not allowing Pharma to say goodbye. Traveling to the planet of Earth, Ratchet found a team consisting of Prowl, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Jazz, Sunstreaker, and Wheeljack, with whom he served with for at least four years.
